Mandaraya upang Manalo sapagkat Kwarta ang nais ng Tao
“Sa Pula, Sa Puti” was originally written by Francisco “Soc” Rodrigo and in our case, was directed by our one and only, Hannah Palabay!
It was a comedy about Kulas, a typical Filipino from the province who loves chicken fights (sabong). Despite his continuous attempts to win, Kulas fails. Knowing that Kulas would never win, his wife Celing secretly calls upon Teban to bet her money to Kulas’ opponent. Kulas and Celing agreed upon having Kulas’ last cockfight (witnessed by Celing’s kumare, Sioning) and if he still fails to win, he would quit being a sabungero. With this, Castor teaches Kulas the dirty ways of winning cock fights. Things did not work as they planned and they all lost their money and added to this, knew each other’s secrets….
I was Production Manager for this play and you can’t imagine how much stress I’ve been through! Here are some of the photos I took during the actual play date last Oct.17
Karen Guioguio as Sioning and Paolo Yusi as Kulas
It was a relief that they found our play funny! I was really worried about the judges + audiences not laughing during our play.
Celing and Hans Ribano as Teban
This was part of Act 1
Kulas with Stefan Latorre as Castor
Castor teaching Kulas how to sprain their “tinali” and bet your money for the opponent’s chicken so that even if your chicken would lose intentionally, you’ll get money.
Celing asking Teban to place her last bet for Kulas’ opponent’s chicken.
Ances Valdez and Franz Villamin as the two tinderas who would be delivering the punch lines.
Clutch Martin as the White Chicken and Liandreb Liveta as the Red One
We sort of played a bit with the cockfight scene by splitting it into three rounds. Rock,Paper,Scissors as Round 1, Boxing as Round 2 and the real cockfight as Round 3.
The last scene of the play. The REVELATION.
Miss Cha, Sir Martin, Sir JM and Miss Cyndi were the judges for our play. Here they are tabulating our scores.
Sir Jeff also watched little parts of our play
Pia was documenting even the comments of the judges! =))
We got three 19/25 and one 16/25 and our average is 18.25! It’s fair enough since we experienced some technical difficulties and we had a little problem with the transition of scenes.
and to those SDS people who are reading this post right now:
I forgot to thank you for the job well done during our actual play. Although we had some flaws and some tech. difficulties, I still appreciated the fact that you guys were able to show a satisfying play. Don’t stop exerting effort but stop showing that you don’t care. We’ve still got lots of class projects/competitions and I hope that we’re gonna do great! Sorry if we (especially myself) pressured you too much and may have even reached to the point where in we come out as “mataray” but it was all for SDS. This play was very nerve wracking! Thank you to those who sacrificed their time to practice and prepare for Oct.17. Special thanks to Hannah(Director), Marie and Rod (Stage Managers), Karen,Paolo,Abi,Stefan and Hans(Actors), Gelina(Prompter), Jenice(Documentation), Janella(Props), Franz(Costumes), Jake and Ernst(Lights), Yanie(Sounds) and all those people who did more than what they were asked to do! >:D<
We’ve got a lot of projects lined up for the 3rd and 4th quarter so stay tuned! =)
